Granite

COST:$125-$200 per linear foot installed

Advantages:
Natural Beauty- Each granite counter top is as unique as the places it′s harvested from. Africa, South America, Asia, and some from the U.S.
Durability- Granite is very hard,(It′s a 7 on the hardness scale a steel knife blade is a 5.5) so it resists scratches. You can place a hot pot directly on the counter top because it is very heat resistant.
Resale- Nothing says a quality home like granite.

Limitations:
Maintenance-Because granite is a product of nature it is naturally porous. Those pores can absorb stains. The way to overcome that is by sealing it. If you love granite, don't let that stop you. It′s easy like waxing a car.
No product warranty- Granite is made by Mother Nature. She dosen't offer a warranty.

Engineered Stone

COST:$130-$185 per linear foot installed

Advantages: Appearance - Because it is a man made stone, it's color is more consistent than granite. Plus there are colors that are not available in granite
No Maintenance- It doesn't stain and there are no pores to fill
Durability- It is repairable, and can withstand a hot pot.
Warranty- It comes with a 10yr warranty

Limitations:
Seams- There are seams where pieces meet in L and U shaped kitchens
Price- higher starting price than granite

Solid Surface

COST::$105-$150 per linear foot installed (add $650 for an integrated under mount sink)

Advantages:
Seamless- There are no seams where pieces meet. Plus a seamless under mount sink is an option.
Selection- More than 100 colors are available to choose from.
Warranty- Most companies offer at least a 10 year warranty.
Repairable/Renewable- Since it is 100 percent acrylic, it is easy to add additional pieces or repair damaged ones.

Limitations:
Heat Resistance- Solid surface cannot withstand a hot pot placed directly on it, so always use a trivet.
Matte Only- The only finish available is matte. No high gloss here. (Sometimes matte is a good thing)
